Eichler House : Mid-Century Modern Home Renovation Done Right

Eichler House : Mid-Century Modern Home Renovation Done Right

Home renovation is on the rise for obvious reasons; so many well made architecturally and geographically desirable homes are reaching the age of needing a serious face lift. Metropolitan Home recently featured the stunning mid-century (1960) Eichler House of Marika Sakellariou renovated by architects Lucian Rosciszewski and Marek Slosar who updated while respecting the roots of the homes interior and exterior. The mostly white interior and open floor plan is a breath of fresh air and compliments the natural landscape which is highly visible thanks to a transparent wall revealing the dining room, the kitchen, the living room and the master bedroom. Keep your eye on the well coordinated furniture and accessories that adorn this clean modern home renovation, especially the Aspen Sofa from Jean Marie Massaud from Cassina shown in all white. Here are some of the beautiful photographs by Shaun Sullivan featured in Met Home. See the rest here.

Barn House Design with Beautiful Interior Decorating

Converting and remodeling a barn into a house needs careful planning. Starting from the top, what is needed is a strong and thick roof. This can be done with metal tie rods and a new layer of roof above the barn’s traditional gambrel to produce thick and rigid insulation. The light for the rooms inside can be provided among others by installing windows and this at the same time can also be used as a view to the garden and the outside layout. To save space the bath can accommodate two full-sized bedrooms which features dual flush toilet and cork flooring for an eco-friendly appeal. Originally pasture land, this formerly barn design can be expected to have closeness or proximity to the environment that enable it to provide wide, open park space and also able to give a peaceful rural neighborhood. Another benefits include central play field, second-growth forest, pasture land, retired orchard, and berry picking heaven. A huge, nearly flat, sunny place for a garden and a variety of other plants and trees could be an added attraction to this house. Normal heating system is sufficient for this barn by utilizing electricity and wood to keep it warm and cozy. Visit A Bainbridge Island Barn official website for more information.

Habitat 825 is a 53,000 square foot, multi-family housing complex with a beautiful color scheme both of the exterior and interior space. The main point of attractions constitute thoughtful and creative solutions to space and privacy issues commonly found in housing complexes. This is accomplished through new forms of contemporary lifestyle and through the use of light, materials, colors, and a common open space accessible by each unit. This open space also serves as a natural climate control for the interior corridors by allowing air to pass through and regulate the temperature. Additionally, private outdoor areas are set within this main space. Despite its communal setting, this housing complexes still afford privacy by using landscaping elements that separate rooms instead of using hard walls or divisions. Painting Homes

Painting Homes

Painting homes can be a profitable summer job and a great way of building your cash flow, but how would you like to do it for a living? There are a great many people who do just that and they even enjoy painting homes so perhaps that's what you would like to check into.

Not actually painting homes of course, unless that's what you would like to do, but maybe you might consider handing over the painting of your home to one of these commendable professionals?

It might be great weather outside now, but you know that the very last thing you want to do is paint your own home from inside out on a day like today. It might be high time that you got around to painting to your home as it seems to scream out for a paint job, but that doesn’t mean that you have to do it yourself. There are a number of people whose sole means of survival and making ends meet is painting homes.

The least you can do in that case is to offer this job to one of those talented people. And don't leave out the summer students who also earn some very necessary money by painting homes while on summer break.

All this aside, can you really view yourself climbing up the side of your house on a ladder with a paint brush in hand? Wouldn't it be much simpler to give it over to one of the professionals whose profession it is, painting homes?

And don't neglect the inside of your home. That needs a good paint job as well, and if you hire in the professionals at least you can have this done as well. On the other hand you may not want to have complete strangers walking through your house possibly dripping paint everywhere.

But would you really do any better in this area? Wouldn't you still get paint everywhere, possibly even more? And won't you be the one who is left to clean up then too?

So your unwillingness to hire professionals whose livelihood it is painting homes comes down to your having to do everything yourself. You're going to climb up and down the scaffolding to paint the exterior of your home as well as the interior and you're also going to remember the ceilings. Then you're certainly going to have to clean up after yourself as well as needing to find somewhere else to stay, since you can't very well live in the house with the paint fumes, and especially if you've been painting the whole day either.

And when are you going to have the time to do it? It may be sunny outside now but that doesn't mean very much other than the fact that you're going to be sweltering in next to time, And don't forget that you'll either have to take the week off work just to get the job done, or you'll need to get to it during your free time making the project last too long.

It doesn't appear to be worth the hassle now does it? So stop putting it off and go ahead and get professionals who know what they're doing and who makes their living at painting homes. Or excluding that get an ohut-of-work student on summer break or two who needs the money and who'll do nearly as good a job as the professionals painters will.

Most certainly even the students out painting homes during the summer will do a proficient job.

Facing the fact that your life does not fit the time table required to do a good job of your painting homes both inside and out allows you to finally do something to get the job done.

Think of it this way, once you just do it and make that call you can begin to see your house with a new coat of paint. You can walk into your house and see the new coat of paint there as well and it will not need to be on your to do list for at least another several years and isn’t that alone worth the call?
Green Remodeling

Green Remodeling

The "green movement" which encourages us to think of environmentally conscious ways we can go about our everyday lives has taken hold in a new way in the last decade. The motto of "think globally, live locally" is a beautiful way for us to implement green living principles because in truth we can only really make a difference in the daily decisions we make each day. So when the time comes to put together a remodeling project, if you can integrate green principles even in how you go about planning to renovate your home, you can do your part to save the planet.

At a procurement level, we all can look for ways to buy green technology materials or materials that were made with recycled materials. This is especially important if you are rebuilding walls because if you can use recycled materials rather than freshly produced lumber or wallboard, that cuts down on the amount of manufacturing work that has to be done to make building materials from scratch.

It also reduces how much the lumber industry has to kill trees to provide for our building needs which reduces our carbon footprint just one more step. And step by step is how we win this battle to save our environment.

If you are thinking about way to make your home environmentally friendly during the planning phase for your remodel, that is an excellent point in time to begin to integrate new technologies into your daily life. The simple step of putting solar panels in the roof while you are having your roof redone gives you the ability to go solar. In doing so you reduce the amount of energy you have to pull from power companies who are producing that energy by burning fossil fuels or gas. On top of that benefit, by producing your own energy, you save money because you become more self-sufficient.

In fact, many homes that produce solar energy make so much electricity that it is more than is needed for one home so they sell that energy back to the power company. Yes, going green can even make you money.

When you have your walls or ceiling tore up during a remodeling project, this is a perfect time to put in extra insulation as well.

This one step can reduce the use of energy to heat or cool your home noticeably. Your utilities bills will fall which is money in your pocket. But more than that, your lower utility bill means you are using less energy to take care of your home, which means you are doing a good job of going green. By being on the look out for the many ways you can use green technology in the design of your home renovation, you can make a huge leap into the future by starting to live green locally to benefit the earth globally.

This means using your friends and family as guinea pigs and exploring how your ideas work out side of the class room

By practicing all of the ideas and techniques that you learned in design school you will discern the best way to achieve the results that you are looking for.

Plus as a bonus your friends and family will get a free home renovation. If they are happy with how you have re-designed their home you can ask them to let their other friends know about this extraordinary interior designer that they know.

Now that you have a base of people who know that you have an interior design degree you can begin to identify yourself as an interior designer.

You will need to find a good beginning design job that you can do without any delays or having your client feeling unsatisfied with your style of interior designs.

This may be the most difficult part in your entire career, keeping your first client happy without running over the allotted time and the budget you have.

It may not be very easy since up until this point you have probably not gotten used to dealing with clients as such, only your friends and your relatives.

Putting your interior design degree to good use you should, if at all possible, build up a good clientele and a good reputation amongst your clientele for being on time and on budget.

You should also aspire to giving them satisfaction because a happy client is a prosperous client and they will customarily recommend you to their friends as well. And that's one area that your interior design career may just take off in a blast

Once your reputation is built you can really start to expand in your interior design career and experiment some with your style and technique.

Your interior design degree provides you with the credibility of an education, your hard work has given you the credibility of your work ethics and now you can work on building credibility in flare and unique design.

Being known as the interior designer that stays on schedule and on budget is great. Better is being known as the interior designer that not only stays on schedule and budget but also is known for their spectacular and innovative designs.

So keep your interior design degree refined, your people skills in top running condition, that creative flare honed, and hold on for the ride of your life
Beautifull A Solar House

Beautifull A Solar House

High praise, indeed, from a member of the solar house team that took 3rd place in the 2005 Solar Decathlon. We won't mention the name of the well-known school, but it's fabeled location is "Far Above Cayuga's Waters". Regardless, we think you'll agree that soon-to-be Missouri S&T's stunning interior design would impress any stylish interior decorator, even this writer's lovely wife.

UMR's Solar House Team has long held that the Solar Decathlon is more than just about building a solar powered house, but more about designing and building an amazing energy-efficient house that also just HAPPENS to get all it power from the sun. And especially an efficient, solar-powered house that people would actually want to LIVE in. Don't believe us? How about UMR's Solar Village, where our '02 and '05 house now serve as very popular student residences. Still don't believe us? Why not visit the houses for yourself. We'd love to give you a tour.
Anyway, the previous Solar Decathlons had a very strong architectural perspective, and considering that most entries were designed more by architecture students than engineers UMR more than held its own, so much so that UMR's 05 house was featured in Popular Mechanics magazine a few months later, and honored by the D-I-Y Cable channel as well. And we expect similar kudos for our really cool 07 house when the dust (er, judging) settles. Not bad for engineers, eh?
